Hidden solution to the 3 stages of business development for entrepreneurs

One of the core reasons why most businesses fail in their infant stages is that many entrepreneurs fail to have a good understanding of the progressive stages of business development. While some business experts have argued that business development stages are cyclical, some argued it to be linear. I would rather simply describe the stages as organismic, and three in numbers. Entrepreneurs need to understand these stages for a clear evaluation of the pace at which their business grow. Let's delve into the three business development stages.

The foreman stage

This is the stage where the business owner does every business activities from strategizing to operation down to sales. At this very stage, the business owner is more focused on business development activities, he aggressively pushes for business growth alone or with one or two partners.

The boss man stage

Here in the business development stage is where the business owner employs more hands because he's not able to handle every business activities anymore. At this stage, the business is on an exponential growth curve, and the entrepreneur is more focused on management activities, there's is little or no time to aggressively drive business development activities. The boss is either overseeing the operation, accounts and human resources activities.

The reality stage

Research has it that 80% of businesses don't escape this third developmental stage and many businesses collapse at this very stage. The reality stage is the point at which the business experience a logarithmic growth. The running cost becomes a burden on profits and payment of staff salary becomes a headache, the boss then begins to think of escape strategies. At this stage, the entrepreneur suspects staff ineffectiveness and end up downsizing his employees. Is that the right approach to transform the "reality stage"? Of course no.

Entrepreneurs need to understand that the "reality stage" is the very development stage that poses a real test to the entrepreneurs' emotional and management capacity. An effective solution to this messy situation is that the business owner ought to reflect on which aspects of the business activities that drawdown most of his business time. Is it Administration or Business development? He should spend more time reinforcing his business development strategies and get more focused on business development activities, else the business might continue to sink. If an entrepreneur reflects on his first business development stage(The foreman stage), he would notice that he spent more time on business development activities, which resulted in transforming the business to the second stage.

Business owners should be more involved in business development activities and reduce the time spent on other business activities, they could better outsource other business activities to external agencies.
